Celebrate National Payroll Week September 3-6, 2013

National Payroll Week is almost here! In honor of National Payroll Week (NPW), BenefitMall takes this opportunity to recognize the hard work and dedication of accounting and payroll professionals everywhere. We thank our clients for their loyalty and applaud our employees for the hard work and commitment to excellence they pour into their jobs every day.

National Payroll Week was established in 1996 by the American Payroll Association (APA) to highlight the importance of payroll and payroll accounting processes to the U.S. economy. Designed to coincide with Labor Day, National Payroll Week is observed during the first full week of September each year. During that week, BenefitMall celebrates the important role that payroll serves in the business community and honors America's 156 million wage earners and the payroll professionals who pay them. According to the APA, “together, through the payroll withholding system, they contribute, collect, report and deposit approximately 1.78 trillion dollars, or 70.5 percent, of the annual revenue of the U.S. Treasury.”

To promote the celebration, the American Payroll Association has created a website dedicated to National Payroll Week.  The site includes a history of National Payroll Week, an NPW information packet, tips on how to celebrate NPW, as well as educational resources. The site also hosts an online survey about payroll, “Getting Paid in America,” and provides sample email or paystub messages to promote participation in the survey. Each person who completes the APA sponsored survey is entered in a drawing to win a free paycheck and a trip for two to Las Vegas, NV.

There is even a song about National Payroll Week. Written by Pat Patrick and Al McCree, “America Works Because We’re Working for America” highlights the importance of the American workforce, the role of the American Payroll Association and payroll professionals across the nation. Listen to the National Payroll Week song, performed by Nashville’s Brandon Sandefur, on the NPW website and make it part of the National Payroll Week celebration at your company.

Because of the emphasis on payroll, the APA uses the opportunity to educate the general public about payroll, what goes into calculating a paycheck, money management and other aspects of fiscal responsibility. The BenefitMall site contains several free tools to assist with payroll calculations and management, including three separate payroll calculators and a W-4 Assistant.  For more information on payroll and how BenefitMall can assist your company with its payroll needs, please reach out to us via the Request Information form on the homepage of
