LIMITED BENEFIT/GAP PLANS
Limited Medical Plans (sometimes called Mini-Med plans) offer viable low-cost alternatives for people not purchasing comprehensive major medical insurance. Where major medical plans pay based upon the charged claims amount, most Limited Medical Plans pay based upon a fixed benefit indemnity amount when various services are incurred, such as:

  • Physician Office Visits
  • Outpatient Lab & X-Ray Tests
  • Hospital In-Patient Stays
  • Critical Illness Incidents
  • Prescriptions- Discount Card, or Restricted Rx Benefit

These products are currently most popular with clients that do not have other medical coverage. On a group basis, they provide lesser coverage to full-time, part-time, entry-level employees and any other employee who cannot afford or is not eligible for the employer's traditional major medical plan. They are an inexpensive way to provide some health insurance coverage and security for their employees.

When purchased by individuals, Limited Benefits also serve as a reasonable alternative to medical insurance.

Many groups and individuals use small versions of Limited Medical benefits as a Gap Plan to support higher-deductible catastrophic insurance.
